These articles were originally written as standalone pieces on HubPages, under my screen name Paraglider. The common themes that run through the articles are: that the World is better understood without reference to, or reliance on, the supernatural, that situational pragmatism is preferable to any form of dogmatism, and that faith-based belief systems are neither necessary nor helpful as the foundation of a fair society. Though the articles deal with serious topics, they are intended as entertainment and do not profess philosophical, scientific or academic rigour. Their original aim, in which they largely succeeded, was to stimulate discussion.
The Warp is a second collection of poems by Dave McClure. His earlier collection, The Weft, is also available on Amazon. All but two of the poems are in modern English, with some very occasional colloquial Scots dialogue. In style, Dave McClure is a New Formalist, meaning that he employs several classic forms while avoiding archaic 'poetic' diction. This collection contains sonnets, ballades, sestinas, triolets, Sapphics and more. There is a wide variety of mood, tone and subject matter, with several light verse offerings intermixed with the more serious pieces. All but three of the poems are from the 21st Century though their subject matter may reach much farther back in time. The collection is not themed in any way. Rather, it is an intentionally random but representative selection from the McClure files, the main criterion for inclusion being failure to meet his undisclosed criteria for exclusion.
